MINATEC is a prime example of international cooperation. Some 30 nationalities are represented on campus and more than 80 foreign industrial and institutional delegations visit each year—an average of two per week—to get an in-depth look at the secrets behind MINATEC’s success.

Engineering school Phelma also demonstrates the truly international character of MINATEC: some 40% of Phelma students spend time abroad through exchange programs, international Master’s programs, internships, graduate projects, or by taking a year off for personal projects or travel.

MINATEC maintains close ties with other global clusters operating on the same model of synergies between research, industry, and higher education:

  • Caltech and CNSE Albany Nanotech in the United States
  • AIST and NIMS in Japan
  • National Nanofab Center in South Korea and ITRI in Taiwan…

The goal is to compare best practices, engage in researcher exchange programs, and, occasionally, form long-term alliances.

The MINATEC team also provides consulting services to governments that wish to set up or improve current micro and nanotechnologies development structures in their countries. MINATEC is currently working in this capacity with the governments of Vietnam, Brazil, Tunisia, and Russia. Sometimes, MINATEC’s consulting assignments also result in new researcher exchange programs.
