Grenoble Institute of Technology-Phelma supports equal opportunity
To help give high-school students of all backgrounds the opportunity to pursue a degree in a science-related field, Grenoble Institute of Technology introduced the ACE (ACcès aux études scientifiques et Égalité des chances) program four years ago with the support of the Rhône-Alpes region. This program aims to introduce students to science and help them overcome their fears and preconceived notions about the discipline. The program mainly targets students from disadvantaged neighborhoods. It works by pairing small groups of high-school students with volunteer engineering students to work together on a project that involves conducting scientific experiments. Some 80 students from the Mounier and Argouges high schools were invited to MINATEC on May 17, 2010 to present their posters to an audience including their 50 engineering student tutors; the teachers applauded both the quality and the content of the various presentations
