The third annual MINATEC Science Fair was held on November 20–21, 2009. Nearly 500 high school students participated in the event on the first day (Friday), while more than 500 visitors from the general public turned up on the second day (Saturday). An additional 40 “surprise guests” from Pièces et Main d’Oeuvre, a Grenoble citizens’ advocacy group, also showed up as part of the group’s efforts to reach out to high school students. The two-day event was not marred by the impromptu demonstration from Pièces et Main d’Oeuvre, and the attendees—who sincerely wanted to learn more about MINATEC—appeared pleased with the activities on offer. Thanks to the 200 volunteers (including 60 Phelma students and 34 students from Mounier high school) who helped showcase MINATEC and give career advice, the event sparked everyone’s curiosity about the world of science.
