Léti researcher Pierre Puget, who specializes in microsystems for biology applications, recently returned to Léti from a year at Caltech. His research initially focused on the use of NEMS to detect biological molecules in liquid environments; he has also filed several patents in the field of gas detection applications. Upon returning, Pierre remarked, “Two things really struck me at Caltech. First, the more flexible boundary between fundamental and applied research, and second, the fact that researchers there are extremely well-rounded and carry out their research projects from A to Z—from calculations and CAD modeling through to fabrication and testing.” Pierre highly recommends a stint at Caltech to anyone who wants to focus mainly on the technical aspects of research.
