STMicroelectronics presents its PhD research at Grenoble Institute of Technology-Phelma
Each year STMicroelectronics hosts around 200 doctoral students at the company’s facilities throughout France, including 120 at its Crolles site just outside of Grenoble. Between 35 and 40 theses are completed each year at the company—opportunities students are seldom aware of. So, to raise awareness of the research opportunities available at the company, STMicroelectronics decided to present its PhD research to a group of around 80 students at Grenoble Institute of Technology’s Phelma engineering school in early November 2009. For students, the presentation provided an opportunity to learn about STMicroelectronics’ R&D strategy and to hear PhD students’ first-hand accounts of what thesis research is really like. More and more PhD engineering students are being recruited into industry, and a PhD in engineering has long been crucial to a successful R&D career abroad. The degree is now becoming just as vital for R&D careers in France.
